Farmhouse burned down – after flaming inferno: identity of corpse clarified!

The body found in mid-March in a burned-down farmhouse in Tyrol’s Wildschönau (Kufstein district) is undoubtedly one of the residents. This was revealed by a DNA comparison, the State Criminal Police Office announced on Monday.

An autopsy at the Innsbruck medical examiner’s office was initially unable to clarify the identity of the body due to the condition of the human remains. The fire investigators are assuming an accident, not third-party negligence. The fire probably broke out in the kitchen. Due to the condition of the body, how the dead man ultimately died remains unclear, as does the exact course of the accident. However, the fire probably started in the kitchen, LKA investigator Philipp Rapold told APA. This suggested traces of fire. Accordingly, the stove had been switched on. Rapold confirmed that the investigation into the identity of the dead man, the cause of death and the cause of the fire had been completed. The fire broke out on the night of March 14th. The building burned down completely. Two men had recently lived in the house. One resident was found somewhere else, the second was initially still being searched for. After the extinguishing work was completed, a body was finally found during a search in the house that was in danger of collapsing. It is now clear that this was the second resident.
