Fatal mix-up – sauna guests in hospital after “Russian infusion”.

A hot sauna party ended Friday evening with three guests in the hospital with burn injuries. A misunderstanding led to a guest pouring undiluted pre-run on the sauna heater. This created a flash of flame that shot onto the sauna ceiling.

At around 7:15 p.m. there were a total of 16 people in the – publicly accessible – sauna of the Dornbirn city pool. A sauna guest prepared a so-called Russian infusion – for which he was presented with a bottle of pre-run (the first distillate produced when distilling schnapps with over 90 percent alcohol). Actually, the highly flammable pre-run should have been mixed with the infusion. Due to a communication problem, the sauna guest poured the bottle directly onto the sauna heater. Burns all over the body. This caused a flash of flame that rose up and was subsequently diverted to the side by the sauna ceiling. As a result, three people were injured, all of whom were in this area of ​​the sauna. One woman was particularly badly hit. She suffered burns all over her body and was taken to the shock room of the state hospital in Feldkirch by rescue and the emergency doctor. Another sauna guest was taken to the Dornbirn hospital. Another guest suffered burns on her left arm and had to be taken to the Dornbirn hospital by rescue. A third person suffered burns to his left ear and was also treated at the city hospital. According to the police, the 13 other guests had suffered obvious injuries, but they did not require medical attention. There is a risk of consequences. For one or the other, the incident could have unpleasant consequences. Because infusions containing alcohol are actually prohibited by sauna regulations. The city said it was now the authorities’ turn.
