Sad accident in the USA: 16-year-old Janae Hairston was shot dead by her own father on Wednesday in the state of Ohio. He allegedly thought his daughter was a burglar in the early hours of the morning after the alarm system was triggered.
At 4:30 am, Janae Hairston’s mother reported the fire to the emergency call center, as reported by “The Columbus Dispatch”. “My husband made a mistake and shot our daughter because he thought she was an intruder,” said the mother. “It was in our garage and my husband just didn’t know what was going on. Oh my God.”
In the eight-minute call, the parents begging the girl to wake up can be heard. The officers arrived at the scene about five minutes later. The injured girl was admitted to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards.
“I’m just shocked”
A neighbor described the girl’s death to ABC 6 as heartbreaking. “This is a neighborhood that has picnics in the square during the Ohio State University Games,” she said. “We’re a great neighborhood, I’m just shocked.”
The case will now be forwarded to the prosecutor for review. It is the seventh murder reported in Columbus within a week and the 202nd homicide in Columbus this year. Thus it is the deadliest year in the history of the city. (gin)
