Feminicide in Paris. Amanda’s family seek justice after suspected police officer’s arrest

This 29-year-old peacekeeper called the gendarmerie in Montmeyan (Var) around 9:45 a.m. to report his presence at his father’s house. His father had asked him on Friday to “surrender without delay” and invited the people who were able to help him in his escape to come forward. The fugitive policeman was arrested shortly after his call to the gendarmerie and taken into custody, it was added.

According to a source close to the case, the suspect was transferred to Paris on Tuesday evening and was to be heard by investigators from the 2nd district of the Paris judicial police, in charge of the investigation.

Wanted since January 28

“The man, a policeman, suspected of having killed his partner, was arrested without incident this morning. He is now at the disposal of justice, ”wrote Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Twitter.

He had been wanted since January 28, the day of the discovery in his apartment in the 19th arrondissement of Paris of the body of his companion, aged 28 and who died of strangulation, according to the autopsy. The body had been discovered in the bathroom by Parisian police officers who came to the home of the suspect, assigned to Blanc-Mesnil (Seine-Saint-Denis).

Amanda’s family demands justice

Tuesday evening, in a press release, the family of Amanda Glain asked “that justice be done for the inhuman act inflicted on the one who will forever remain their little girl and big sister darling”. She “welcomed” the success of the appeal for witnesses launched by the investigating judge who “finally made it possible to put an end to this unbearable run”.

“She recalls that the thoughtful and methodical behavior which characterized the criminal’s flight and then the run belies” an “alleged psychological fragility” mentioned in certain articles and “on the contrary illustrates the cold blood with which he committed his crime”, adds the press release. “This crime took the life of an exceptional person, a free, empathetic, caring, independent young woman and talented artist,” said the Glain family.

She however expressed the “regret that neither the investigators nor the public prosecutor of Paris proceeded to the immediate dissemination” of such a call, a “deficiency (which) fatally contributed to facilitating the escape of the perpetrator and thereby increase the suffering and fears of Amanda’s loved ones”.

The policeman’s car, his service weapon and his two chargers were found on February 11 and 12 in Amiens in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant.
