Fiat half-heartedly confirms the upcoming arrival of the Pandina, an affordable electric Panda

“Social leasing”, allowing the most modest households to rent an electric car at a low price, will be implemented on January 1, 2024. Manufacturers were thus able to communicate on their models compatible with this government aid. This allowed Fiat to slip in a small exclusion on the arrival of a new affordable electric car next year.

Being able to access an electric car for 100 euros per month? This was the government’s promise, which will come true on January 1, 2024. All the details were posted online a few days ago, with good news: certain models will be available at rents well below this objective, such as the Renault Twingo at 40 euros per month without contribution.

Stellantis, a group of Citroën, Peugeot, DS, Opel, Fiat and Jeep, is not left out: it too has several models eligible for the offer. If the Citroën ë-C3 stole the show with a monthly payment of 54 euros per month, a small line from the press release caught our attention…

A new model…

“To this wide choice will be added, at the end of 2024, for Fiat a small affordable electric vehicle whose environmental score should be eligible for the ecological bonus and social leasing. »

Difficult to be more precise: the Fiat 500e and 600e will therefore have a little sister in a year.

It remains to be seen what it is. We have a little idea, since we spoke to you a few days ago… about an accessible electric Fiat. It should be called Pandina and would be the 100% electric counterpart of the famous Panda, which would continue its career in parallel with a micro-hybrid engine. It would be tempting to make the connection.

…of which we already know quite a few details

Let’s go ahead, let’s start on this principle. The Fiat Pandina, therefore, is not a total unknown, since it will be based on the Citroën ë-C3 and its Smart Car platform, designed for entry-level cars.

The little Citroën has already been announced in two versions: the first, available from its launch next spring, equipped with an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack of 44 kWh capacity, capable of offering up to 320 km of autonomy according to the WLTP cycle. A second, which will arrive in 2025, will offer a version deflated to 25 kWh, limiting the autonomy to around 200 km.

A smaller battery for, logically, a tighter access price. If the 44 kWh ë-C3 will start at 23,300 euros, the 25 kWh one should succeed in keeping its price down to 19,900 euros! No reason why this Pandina should not follow this path.

The small Fiat will be produced in three factories in Brazil, Morocco and Serbia – which makes the unions groan, because the Panda has always been made in Italy. Only the latter two should be used for European markets, which should allow them to qualify for the 2024 French bonus, and therefore to be able to benefit from this famous social leasing.

This Pandina should therefore join the ball of electric cars at 25,000 euros, which will be joined next year by the highly anticipated Renault 5 E-Tech, as well as by the Volkswagen ID.2 in 2025 and a small Tesla… later, without us really knowing when.
