Microsoft wants to put an end to the bugs affecting the Windows 11 file explorer. An upcoming update brings numerous fixes to crashes, slowdowns and other “freezes”.
The good thing about Windows 11 updates is that they often bring new features. What’s not so good is when they cause sometimes very annoying bugs like blue screens of death. One of the major changes to the system was presented at the beginning of 2023: Microsoft modified the File Explorer. Tackling such a piece was not an easy task, and inevitably, the redesign of the tool came with its share of hassles for the user: slowdowns, freezing or even complete shutdown… It was necessary remediate.

Referring to the version 23545 of the operating system, we can think that Microsoft is on the right track. Remember that this is an update reserved for people registered with the Windows Insider program and who receive them in advance, but in beta version. When they contain new features, it is a matter of testing them upstream and adjusting them before deploying them. In terms of fixes, it’s the same principle.
Windows 11 File Explorer will receive several fixes
The notes concerning version 23545 give pride of place to the file explorer. More than 10 issues have been resolved, and not the least. Here are some examples :
- A problem could cause the explorer.exe crash when closing File Explorer.
- If you launched File Explorer in a dark theme, you could see a bright white flash as content loaded.
- Quickly opening two File Explorer windows could crash explorer.exe.
- Attempting to open the Gallery after adding new images could cause a crash.
- Desktop icons changed to white generic icons until you refresh the desktop.
As you can see, these were not trivial bugs that went unnoticed. We now hope that the update will be deployed quickly to all users, and that it will not create other bugs.
