“Sto minut iz zhizni Ivana Denisovicha” (“100 Minutes”) is to enrich the program on August 13th on the Piazza Grande, as the message goes on to say. The film comes from the Russian director Gleb Panfilow, who was awarded the Golden Leopard in 1969 for his debut “V ogne broda net” (“No Path Through Fire”, 1968).
Panilov’s most recent work deals with the life of Iwan Denissowitsch Shukow; the literary figure was one of those Russian soldiers who fought for the Soviet Union against the Nazis and were then banished to Siberian labor camps by Stalin. The story is based on the story “A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” by Alexander Solzhenitsyn, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1970 for this.
