Final of Top Chef: how M6 manages to avoid leaks on the identity of the winner

This Wednesday, June 15, M6 is broadcasting the grand finale of Top Chef. While it was filmed last January, the name of the winner did not leak. Find out how this is possible.

A (very) well-kept secret. After 18 weeks of competition, the thirteenth season of Tchief coming to an end. This Wednesday, June 15, Stéphane Rotenberg will be at the helm of the long-awaited finale of the prestigious culinary competition of M6. As usual, the last two candidates still in the running will have to take up a major challenge: to prepare a gastronomic menu – starter, main course, dessert – for 80 Red Cross volunteers as well as for the four brigade leaders who are Philippe Etchebest, Hélène Darroze, Paul Pairet and Glenn Viel. A delicate exercise during which they will be supported by a team made up of veterans of this edition of Top chef. The pressure will be at its peak.

It is Louise Bourrat and Arnaud Delvenne who have, this year, the heavy task of sticking to it. Except that this final – like the rest of the competition – is not live. It is indeed on January 10, the two finalists met in the kitchens of the George-V in Paris to concoct their final dishes. In the age of social networks, however, it seems difficult to keep the mystery as to the winner for so long. This is to avoid any leaks that the chain has implemented a well-rehearsed strategy – since it’s the same every year. At the end of the meal, no one knows who won the competition. It takes several months for that to happen. Only the points awarded by the chief jurors are revealed the same evening.

When did the filming of the reveal of the finale of Top Chef take place?

But those of the Red Cross volunteers can upset the ranking of Philippe Etchebest, Hélène Darroze, Paul Pairet and Glenn Viel. Especially since in general, they play neutrality. The votes of volunteers are “preciously preserved by master Nadjar, explains Stéphane Rotenberg. And to confide:The last five minutes are shot at the last moment. This system has been in place for a few years now so that there are no leaks.“. So it’s only about two weeks” before the broadcast of the final that these votes are counted for the filming of the reveal – this ceremony during which the finalists must raise a knife in order to discover thanks to the color of its blade if they have won or not. Something to preserve fans of Top chef who have been waiting for the final outcome of this season for many months.
