The Norwegian world record holder has no chance in the final over 400 m hurdles. Brazilian Alison Dos Santos takes gold.

For Karsten Warholm, the dream of the third world title in a row has burst. The Norwegian world record holder was doing well until the exit of the last corner, but then collapsed completely on the last straight. The 26-year-old was really passed and had to settle for 7th place in 48.42 seconds and thus the penultimate place in the final.

As a reminder, Warholm set a new world record of 45.94 at the Tokyo Olympics. By his standards, he was now almost miles away from this at the World Championships in Eugene. However, the Norwegian has not competed in a single race this season due to calf problems. It is quite possible that he was not in full possession of his powers.

Dos Santos wins in World Cup record time

You can’t say that about Alison Dos Santos. The Brazilian came out of the last corner first and kept up his pace. The Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and world best of the year won in a record time of 46.29 at the World Championships and celebrated by far the greatest success of his career with gold at the World Championships.

Behind the 22-year-old Dos Santos, who has already clinched four Diamond League victories this year, the other medals went to the USA. Like at the Olympics, Rai Benjamin (46.89) secured silver, while his compatriot Trevor Bassitt ran to bronze with a new personal best of 47.39.
