Finally an electric car with convincing autonomy at Mini?

Mini should market in 2024 a new 100% electric SUV which should take the name of Aceman. This model should, according to the first rumors, do much better in terms of autonomy than the current Mini Cooper SE.

The electric Mini range is still quite thin, since only the Mini Cooper SE acts as an electric car in the British manufacturer’s offer. It must be said that this engine lends itself quite well to the spirit of the legendary Mini, but at a time when SUVs are capturing almost 50% of the market share in Europe, Mini must offer an SUVlike the Countryman, but electric.

The manufacturer has already presented an electric SUV concept car. This is called Aceman and is positioned in the same galaxy as the Renault Mégane E-Tech and other future 100% electric Jeep Avengers. Indeed, there is not much “mini” in all this anymore, but like Smart with electric SUV #1 and electric SUV #3, the Minis change in size.

More than 400 km of autonomy?

The big flaw of the Mini Cooper SE is its lack of versatility, and we particularly highlighted this in our test of the model. Indeed, with its small battery with a capacity of 32.6 kWh, the Mini’s range is between 225 and 234 kilometers on the WLTP combined cycle. But Mini being part of the BMW group, the synergies between the two manufacturers will undoubtedly make it possible to improve things, in particular with the arrival of the Aceman of series planned for 2024.

According to the media Auto-Expressthe basic Aceman could receive a 40 kWh battery, around 180 hp and a range of up to around 320km. Nothing too crazy for a vehicle that is more oriented towards the family and, therefore, long journeys, but Mini will offer an alternative.

Indeed, a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh should also be offered, with an autonomy which should slightly exceed the 400km. Its engine power should be around 215 hp.

50 kWh today is nothing extraordinary, some electric cars manage to reach more than 100 kWh of battery capacity without too much problem. It all depends on the segment of the car, and as we explained to you in a dedicated article, a large battery is not always betterfor various reasons: ecological, but also economical.

A price not really “mini”

The Mini Aceman will be based on a completely new platform, a platform inaugurated on the future electric Mini Cooper which will arrive in 2023. Unsurprisingly, like the Cooper, the Aceman should be produced in China.

Regarding the price, it’s hard to imagine a model below 40,000 euros. The small size of the batteries will make it possible to relatively contain the prices. In this segment, as explained by Luca de Meo, the boss of Renault, offering models with large 150 or 200 kW batteries is nonsense from an ecological point of view, as Ademe also points out.
