(dpa) The Islamic scholar Tariq Ramadan has been fined in France for revealing the identity of a woman who accuses him of rape. The Court of Appeal in Paris confirmed a first-instance judgment on Thursday, as reported by the newspaper “Le Parisien”. According to this, Ramadan has to pay a fine of 1,000 euros and 2,000 euros in damages to the woman concerned. In a book, Ramadan gave the real name of the woman accusing him. The French publisher was fined 500 euros.

The scientist, who comes from Switzerland, is being investigated in France for allegations of rape and the rape of a vulnerable person in four cases. The 59-year-old had already been in custody for ten months. Ramadan had always denied the allegations.
