Fire Emblem Engage announced, with an approaching release date

Fire Emblem Engage is coming to Nintendo Switch from January 20, 2023, which might sound incredibly close for a game you hear about the first time around. But several rumors from the past few months suggested that the game has been over for over a year, and was originally slated for the series’ 30th anniversary in 2020.

Between Three Houses and Heroes

Like Fire Emblem Three Houses, this new opus is jointly developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo, as well as by the Gust studio. Unsurprisingly, we therefore find the same graphic paw, and features similar to those of its predecessor, even the studios report that improvements have been made in the graphics.

From what we can see in the trailer Fire Emblem Engage takes up the usual elements of the license, with turn-based combat on a grid, and special animations during attacks. A base to explore, in which it is possible to navigate in the third person in order to interact with the different characters is also present. This time there shouldn’t be an academy with classes to run, but it would be really amazing if there weren’t tons of relationships to develop, and romances possible. As is the case for several games in the series, the protagonist can be a man, as well as a woman.

The thirtysomething game

One of the particularities of this title is the possibility of summoning heroes from previous titles, such as Marth and Celica, which fits quite well with the kind of tributes that one can expect in a game which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the license. . We can’t say that this is unusual for the series, however, since some DLC from previous games gave a similar option, not to mention Fire Emblem Heroes, of which this is the whole concept. The duo system seems to be returning in a new form for the occasion, and rings also seem to be involved in the use of their powers.

The rest seems relatively standard, since we have a new cast of characters, and an ancient evil to overcome by becoming “a divine dragon” in order to save the continent of Elyos.
