Fishermen kept at the dock: Bardella denounces the “tyranny of NGOs” and European standards

After going to meet farmers from Gironde on Saturday, the head of the RN list for the European elections organized a trip to the fishing port of Lorient, where several dozen boats are banned from fishing throughout the Bay of Biscay ( from the tip of Finistère to the Basque Country) until February 20.

The fishermen present at the quay deplored to Jordan Bardella this “unfair” and “absurd” decision according to them, imposed by the Council of State which had been contacted by environmental defense associations. And more than one drew a parallel between their situation and the difficulties currently experienced by farmers, whom they have also planned to come to support on Thursday in Rennes during a demonstration in front of the prefecture.

No concrete measures from Bardella

“You are fighting against the same things,” said the president of the far-right party. “What do the yellow vests, the red hats, the fishermen and the farmers have in common? It is the cry of France which does not want to die, of people who want to live from their work and who do not want to depend on “continuous aid,” said Jordan Bardella. “Today there is a convergence of anger in working France,” said the campaigning MEP.

“In Lorient, we have a cocktail between the tyranny of green NGOs, the government of judges and the excesses of Brussels,” criticized the president of the RN. Before leaving, he assured the Lorient fishermen of his support for the European Parliament without having mentioned concrete measures, other than “fighting free trade agreements” and “the proliferation of standards”.

The “space-time closure” of the Bay of Biscay applies to boats, French or foreign, of more than eight meters and to certain fishing techniques. It must be repeated during the winters of 2025 and 2026 in the name of protecting dolphins, to reduce the deaths of small cetaceans accidentally caught in nets.
