Five people were injured by a rocket attack on the Russian region of Belgorod carried out from Ukraine, Russian authorities announced on Tuesday. kyiv, facing a large-scale Russian assault for two years, had promised to bring the fighting to Russian soil in retaliation for the daily bombings and the occupation of part of its territory by Russia.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed to have destroyed thirteen rockets fired by Vampire systems over the Belgorod region during the night from Monday to Tuesday. Two people were injured in the Belgorodsky district and three in the Graivoron district, in the west of the region, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on his Telegram channel. Two hours later, he reported three other injured in the village of Golovtchino, in the Graivoron district, including two firefighters and a woman, “hit by shrapnel” and hospitalized.

Four private homes and a fire station were damaged, according to the governor. The Belgorod region has recently been targeted by numerous drone attacks and strikes blamed by Russia on Ukraine, which have left more than a dozen dead in a week according to local authorities.

Russia, for its part, has increased its massive bombings of Ukraine, particularly since last week, presenting them as retaliation. It inflicted significant damage on civilian infrastructure, including the electricity grid supplying Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city.
