Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, more than five million people have died after being infected with the virus.
That comes from data from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (USA), which the university published on Monday. The threshold of four million corona deaths worldwide was exceeded at the beginning of July.
So far, 11,234 people have died of Corona in Switzerland. The number of infections in this country is 873,000.
According to the data of the US researchers, the number of confirmed infections worldwide is now more than 246 million cases.
The number of unreported cases is probably high
Experts also assume a high number of unreported cases of infections and deaths around the globe.
The university’s website is regularly updated with incoming data and shows a slightly higher level than the official figures of the World Health Organization (WHO). In some cases, the numbers have been revised downwards again at times. According to the WHO on Friday, there have been 4.98 million confirmed deaths and around 245 million known infections to date.
The Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus can cause the disease Covid-19, which can be fatal. Deaths occur in all age groups, but the elderly and those with weak immune systems are particularly affected. (SDA / uro)
