After a goalless 120 minutes, Georgia beat Greece in a penalty shootout in the playoff final.

Georgia – Greece 0:0 aet, 4:2 aet

Georgia wrote a football fairytale in the playoffs for the EURO in Germany this summer. The team from the Caucasus country surprisingly prevailed against the favored Greece in Tbilisi and is therefore taking part in a European Championship for the first time in its history. The decision was made in the penalty shootout, where Greek captain Anastasios Bakasetas and Georgios Giakoumakis lost their nerve. In extra time, Greece’s Konstantinos Mavropanos missed the lead with a header from the crossbar. In the National Stadium in Tbilisi, all dams were broken after the penalty shootout: the fans stormed the pitch to celebrate their heroes. Georgia will face Portugal, the Czech Republic and Turkey in Group F in Germany.
