Strasbourg redeemed. The French Ligue 1 club has been taken over by the American consortium BlueCo which also owns English club Chelsea. The current president Marc Keller should however remain at the head of the Alsatian team.

The American consortium BlueCo, which bought the English club Chelsea last year, announced on Thursday that it had acquired the Racing club of Strasbourg, but will leave its president Marc Keller at the head of the Alsatian Ligue 1 team. “This agreement marks a new chapter in the history of Racing as the consortium is committed to accelerating sustainable investments in the growth of the club, including in the first teams and in the Academy, in the continuity of the project put in place led by Marc Keller, who will remain club president, supported by his current management team,” BlueCo said in a statement.

Redemption of all club shares

The group has bought almost all of the club’s shares, said a source familiar with the matter, without being able to give the amount of the investment, however. “BlueCo is committed to preserving the heritage of Racing and wishes to work closely with Marc Keller and his management team in order to continue the excellent work done,” the statement continued.

Strasbourg becomes the fifth L1 club to go under the American flag after Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse and Le Havre.
