For better working conditions – Thousands of construction workers take to the streets in Zurich – News

  • According to the Unia trade union, several thousand construction workers took to the streets in Zurich at noon for a demonstration.
  • They demanded better working conditions when moving through the city center.

The participants in the construction demo specifically demanded more protection for their health and criticized a possible “working time dictate” by the builders. An “hour theft during travel time and bad weather” was also complained about.

At the parade organized by the unions Unia and Syna, participants literally banged their heads. The background to the rally is the state shell agreement (LMV) for the main construction trades, which expires at the end of the year.

According to the trade unions, the previous negotiations on a new contract have not led to any rapprochement. The central president of the Swiss Builders’ Association (SBV), Gian-Luca Lardi, on the other hand, said in the “Blick” on Saturday that the talks were “constructive” and he was “reasonably optimistic”. Construction worker demonstrations like those in Zurich represented only a small part of the workforce.
