For France, Putin has broken his commitment, according to the Elyse

PARIS (Reuters) – French President Emmanuel Macron considers that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin has broken the commitments made and his decision should be sanctioned, the Elyse said on Monday.

Emmanuel Macron also wants proportionate sanctions, targeted in relation to the Russian announcements concerning the Donbass, to be taken at European level.

“President Putin held this (Monday) evening a speech which is both politico-historical accusatory, which mixes very diverse considerations of both rigid and paranoid type,” an Elyse official told the press.

The official added that France wanted the meeting scheduled for Friday in Paris between the Russian and French foreign ministers to take place.

“Our wish is that this meeting takes place, we believe that the difficulty of the situation does not exclude seeing each other”, declared the person in charge, specifying however that France would clearly pose requirements and would make sure to keep the means of some control over the situation.
