L’Quatennens affair, and more broadly the reactions of the executives of La France insoumise, continue to arouse debates within the political class. Interviewed on the show Sunday in politics broadcast on France 3, this Sunday, October 9, Jean-Luc Mélenchon wanted to defend Adrien Quatennens, accused of domestic violence by his companion.

Asked about a possible return to the National Assembly of the elected, the boss of LFI estimated “that he must return”. “We had three weeks of lynchings. He was the victim of political slaps in all the media from morning to night. I have an affection for him, because he is one of the most brilliant who has imposed himself in the last period. He has the right to the graduation of the sentences imposed on him. »

“I understood that he was on sick leave,” added Jean-Luc Mélenchon, according to whom Adrien Quatennens “is not violent because he was violent once, there over a year ago” and “has never started this violence again”.

“Stop lynching Adrien Quatennens”

Relaunched on the presence of Adrien Quatennens in the National Assembly, Jean-Luc Mélenchon insisted that the elected official be able to speak in the Hemicycle. He then compared the journalist who interviewed him to a member of the “clergy of the Old Regime” for his way of handling the case. To conclude, the former presidential candidate felt that it was necessary to stop talking about this affair. “Let this thing settle. You have no life experience if you don’t know when to stop,” he accused the journalist opposite him.

At the same time, the head of the Renaissance deputies, Aurore Bergé, pointed out on BFMTV the support provided by Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “We have been living for several weeks with an implausible fact in politics: a parliamentarian who has recognized facts constituting domestic violence, but because he belongs to this political party, we have quite implausible remarks about him”, a-t- she denounces. “Me, I have no affection for a man who hits his wife,” she added.

La Nupes in turmoil

The Lille prosecutor’s office had indicated on September 19 that it had opened an investigation after the first handrail filed against Adrien Quatennens by his wife, as part of its “proactive criminal policy for the treatment of domestic violence”. The elected official withdrew from his function as coordinator of La France insoumise, acknowledging violence against his wife in a press release published on Twitter. He notably admitted having “gave him a slap”, “a year ago”, “in a context of extreme tension and mutual aggressiveness”, claiming to have “deeply regretted this gesture”.

The wife of the chosen one finally filed a complaint against him.

At LFI, the case sparked reactions that caused outcry. For example, Mélenchon’s tweet, hailing the “courage” of his right arm without mentioning the fate of his companion, then the words of MP Manuel Bompard qualifying the seriousness of the acts committed reinforced the unease within the party. The left alliance “Nupes” is weakened and put on the march of October 16 to end a disastrous sequence.
