Revamping a true classic: Ford introduces the 2024 Nugget. The small mobile home is known as a rolling two-room apartment and has a modern base.
The Ford Nugget has been fundamentally revised and comes with a new base vehicle
Many campers know the Ford Nugget inside out. If you haven’t had one yourself, you’ll definitely have taken a look inside. The innovative and at the same time proven concept of the “two-room apartment” can now also be found in the new product presented for the 2024 model year.
The most noticeable change is the change in the base vehicle. The new Nugget now rolls on the current Ford Transit Custom, which is significantly more spacious than the smaller Tourneo Custom, which Bürstner is using for the also new Copa 2024. Thanks to the update, the Nugget now offers the current range of modern assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control and a lane departure warning system.

The basic version comes in the Titanium equipment line with a 2.0 TDCI engine, 170 hp and eight-speed automatic transmission. The total weight is given as 3.2 tons. From the end of next year there will also be a version with a plug-in hybrid drive (PHEV), which has a system output of 232 hp and which should score points with lower consumption. All-wheel drive is optional.
The highlight of its numerous predecessors can also be found in the current Nugget: the L-shaped kitchen in the rear. An unusual floor plan that offers practical advantages in everyday life. Since the kitchen protrudes a bit into the room, it feels like you are in a separate room. In the kitchen area, the pop-up roof at the front also offers the maximum height so that you can stand upright while cooking.
The Nugget is actually a three-room apartment, because people sleep in the attic, in the pop-up roof. There is space for five people in the Nugget. However, a maximum of four people can sleep in it – two in the 2.57 x 1.25 meter pop-up roof and two on the folded back seat, which can even be heated electrically in bed mode when the motorhome is connected to shore power. Westfalia is once again responsible for the interior work.
With dimensions of 5.05 x 2.28 x 2.06 meters, the new Nugget unfortunately doesn’t quite fit into the (underground) garage. Nevertheless, it is also suitable as a first or second car, with which you can drive the children to school in the morning and spend relaxing hours in the countryside on the weekend.
The Westfalia Nugget shown on the caravan in Düsseldorf was shown with thin, glued solar modules on the pop-up roof. The predecessor was also available with a fixed high roof. Is this also available for the current vintage? Ford doesn’t want to commit to this yet. Other innovations include modern touchscreens in the driver’s cab and living area, an improved chassis, a pull-out outdoor shower with hot water preparation and a new refrigerator.
Price and availability
The new Ford Nugget is available from dealers at a base price of 76,500. Orders are possible now, and the first deliveries are expected in spring 2024.
