Fortnite: Epic Games launches limited accounts so that children can play safely

It will not have escaped your notice that one of the main targets of Fortnite is the teen audience. The game is very popular with children and its multiplayer dimension can pose a problem in the protection of the youngest, since they are confronted with systems that they do not yet understand, such as the economic model of the game which can lead to certain abuses ( there are countless stories of V-bucks purchased without parental consent). To try to prevent this, Epic Games announces the opening of protected accounts for this public.

Young audiences better protected

From today, it is possible to create so-called limited accounts, which are supposed to protect the youngest by asking their age and requiring a parent’s email to access parental consent. With a limited account, it will be possible to play Fortnite as before, with all purchased content, but that’s it. To acquire more skins or spend more money, you will have to go through the parental control settings.

Apart from money problems, it is also privacy and information about these young players who will now be better protected. Limited accounts (or those without age information) will be at the maximum privacy level, with zero personalized recommendations, hidden information or even the absence of swear words below 16 years old.

A good measure which will obviously not avoid all the excesses, but for a game as general public as Fortniteis already a step in the right direction.
