Forty for kindergarten students

To stem the crisis of covid-19 and its variants, kindergarten students with signs suggestive of Covid-19 will now be placed in quarantine for seven days.

The health protocol has been further tightened! This Sunday, February 7, an urgent note from the Directorate General of Health (DGS) indicated to strengthen its fight against the South African and Brazilian variants of covid-19. Thus, as soon as a student is considered to be in contact with a parent or a member of his family, infected with one of the two variants, the class will be automatically closed. In addition, people positive for the South African or Brazilian variant and their risky contact cases should be tested. They must then isolate themselves for 10 days, unlike 7 days previously.

But the health protocol was updated this Tuesday, February 9 by the Ministry of National Education. From now on, students with signs suggestive of covid-19 and who have not yet been tested will be subject to “From an eviction of seven days until the signs stop”. Nevertheless, the evocative signs have not been specified. Also, the protocol recommends “An additional eviction 48 hours after the fever has disappeared”.

After this quarantine, the children will be able to come back without being tested, by simply respecting the barrier gestures.

Nearly 1,000 classes already closed

According to the latest figures released by the government, 934 classes out of 528,400 were closed in France. However, in the event of a third confinement, the closure of schools is not considered, as indicated by the scientific council, in particular for social reasons. "The English data which initially suggested that the English variant was more transmissible in schools and children did not convince us", underlined Jean-François Delfraissy, Chairman of the Board. "This is the reason why (…) we recommended, including with variants, the continuation of the opening of schools, because there are other issues (…) which are issues societal and in particular for children who come from the most fragile or socially disadvantaged classes ”

To avoid the “bottle brush” as indicated by the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, the government is leaning towards saliva tests suitable for children. An alternative that is only waiting for the green light from the High Authority for Health (HAS) to be deployed.
