After having proven itself with the Laptop 13, Framework is preparing to market its Laptop 16, whose pre-orders have just started.

On paper, the Laptop 16 offers the same scalability and customization benefits as the Laptop 13, but thanks to the additional space, the possibilities are increased tenfold. We thus go from four to six slots for modules, with the possibility of integrating a graphics card thanks to an integration bay on the back of the PC. If you don’t need a GPU, it will be possible in the future to get other types of bays.

More space, more possibilities!

We find two basic versions. The first is the DIY Edition; the buyer will have to assemble his machine himself and install the operating system of his choice. The entrance ticket is 1579 €. The second option, named Pre-Built, corresponds to a laptop ready to use with Windows preinstalled. The bill climbs to 1919 €, still at the base rate.

Let’s move on to the customization options. By default, the machine is based on an AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS (8C / 16T) processor clocked at 5.1 GHz, but it is possible to opt for the Ryzen 9 7940HS (8C / 16T) powered at 5.2 GHz . The range is much wider in terms of RAM and storage, since the options allow a maximum of 64 GB of RAM and 4 TB of SSD to be carried. Taking advantage of the large chassis, Framework offers to slide in a second SSD of up to 2 TB.

Framework also develops extension modules. For the time being, it is possible to opt for an empty unit which will simply be used to cool the computer, but gamers will certainly prefer to pay the 450 € claimed for the module integrating an AMD Radeon RX 7700S graphics card equipped with 8 GB of video memory. Note that the use of this GPU allows Framework to integrate the AMD Advantage program; however, the performance of this GPU is limited to say the least. With a power envelope of 100 watts, the Radeon RX 7700S should offer lower performance than an RTX 3060 from Nvidia.

The options do not stop there, since it is also possible to choose your keyboard (arrangement of the keys of course, but also color and presence or not of a numeric keypad) or the color of the edge of the screen and even of the connection. Note that there is only one type of slab available at the moment. In 16/10th format, it displays a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels with a refresh rate of 165 Hz.

Pre-orders for the Laptop 16 are already open and the first five waves of delivery are already sold out. It will now have to wait until the first quarter of 2024 to obtain its model.
