France and the ghosts of the Tutsi genocide

It was the last genocide of the XXe century. In three months, from April to July 1994, between 800,000 and 1 million Tutsi were killed in Rwanda at the initiative of Hutu extremists, who then ruled the country.

Twenty-seven years to the day after the start of this massacre, the podcast “L’Heure du Monde” looks back on this tragedy.

After an account of the events, Piotr Smolar, journalist responsible for covering diplomacy at the World, evokes the support that the French state gave at the time to the genocidal Hutu regime, support which was highlighted in the recent report of the Research Commission on French Archives relating to Rwanda and the Tutsi genocide, published March 26.
