July 24 (Reuters) – French Minister for Ecological Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, said in an interview with the JDD that she wanted to regulate the practices of businesses in terms of energy, a measure that is part of the “sobriety plan” announced by President Emmanuel Macron earlier this month.
During a television interview for July 14, the Head of State indicated that he had invited public administrations and large groups to prepare a plan to “consume less” energy, generally inviting the population to energy sobriety, against a backdrop of fears of a complete interruption of Russian gas deliveries to Europe.
“In the next few days, I will issue two decrees: the first generalizes the ban on illuminated advertisements regardless of the size of the city, between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m., with rare exceptions such as train stations and airports which do not don’t close at night,” said Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
“The second prohibits, for a store, to have its doors open while the air conditioning or heating is working (..) This is no longer acceptable!”, She added to the Sunday newspaper.
Recalling the objective of “making an effort of 40% on our consumption by 2050”, the minister indicated that the government was awaiting “action plans in the fall” from a range of actors – public establishments, tourism, local authorities.. (Written by Jean Terzian)
