France, first beneficiary of EIB financing in 2021

With nearly 14 billion euros of investments, France was in 2021, the first country to benefit from investments from the European Investment Bank (EIB), according to a report published on Monday.

For the first time, France is the first country to benefit from investments from the European Investment Bank (EIB). These investments, detailed in a press release, are distributed as such:

  • 9.2 billion directly from the EIB,
  • 4.7 billion euros via the European Investment Fundbelonging to the EIB group, dedicated to financing small and medium-sized enterprises.

In 2020, France was the second country, behind Italy, to have benefited the most from the aid of the European Union bank, based in Luxembourg.

This financing took place in the context of the health and economic crisis, against which the EIB was particularly mobilized in support of EU states.

With more than two thirds of its volume of loans dedicated to the fight against global warming against 51% last year, France is in 2021 the first beneficiary of EIB financing for climate supportalso underlines the EIB.

6 billion euros were thus mobilized in favor of theenergy efficiency buildings, clean mobilityfrom renewable energies and adaptation to the consequences of climate change.

In industry, among the most important financings, the EIB cites 500 million euros for research and development by the Safran group, loans of 280 million euros to ArcelorMittal and 200 million euros to the cable manufacturer Nexans.

Acted in 2019, the EIB’s new investment policy primarily targets the fight against global warming and sustainable development, with 1,000 billion euros to be released in ten years. The EIB also decided at the end of 2019 to stop financing projects related to fossil fuels from 2022.
