France: inflation should accelerate in August

(CercleFinance.com) – Over one year, according to the provisional estimate made by INSEE at the end of the month, consumer prices in France should increase by 4.8% in August 2023, thus marking a significant acceleration after +4 .3% the previous month.

This rise in the inflation rate should be due to the rebound in energy prices, while food prices should slow (for the fifth consecutive month), as well as, to a lesser extent, those of manufactured goods and services .

Still over one year, the harmonized consumer price index (calculated for European comparisons) should increase by 5.7% in August, after +5.1% in July. Over one month, it should grow by 1.1%, after having been stable the previous month.
