ARD shows the memorial service live on television
Franz Beckenbauer died on January 7, 2024 at the age of 78.

The planned memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer in Munich’s Allianz Arena will be broadcast live on TV.
FC Bayern Munich, the Kaiser’s long-standing club, of which he was also honorary president, is hosting the memorial service on Friday next week from 3 p.m. in the Allianz Arena. The first will also report live from around 3 p.m. The presenter Esther Sedlaczek (38) leads through the broadcast, which is scheduled to last around 80 minutes.
Before and immediately afterwards, winter sports are on the program. “The organizing committee in Antholz and the IBU have brought forward the biathlon race that was originally planned for this time,” ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky (61) is quoted as saying in a statement. “So we are now able to report comprehensively on the memorial service for Franz Beckenbauer as well as show biathlon.”

From January 12th, anyone interested can obtain admission permits – currently two per person. These are free of charge, but for organizational reasons it is not possible to participate without such a card. FC Bayern said they consciously chose the Allianz Arena as the venue: “On the one hand, the stadium wouldn’t exist without Beckenbauer’s commitment. On the other hand, the ‘Kaiser’ always had a heart for everyone, and therefore as many as possible should People also get the opportunity to say goodbye to him.” The plan is therefore “a ceremony with speeches from companions and dignitaries as well as musical contributions.”
