The Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Repression (DGCCRF) is the victim of identity theft. It alerts consumers to a scam that takes different forms.

Beware of DGGCRF identity theft. Fraud Repression has taken the trouble to communicate to invite consumers to be vigilant in the face of scams. Scammers are in fact posing as agents of the French administration, by contacting citizens using fraudulent SMS or phone calls. As is often the case, the scheme is based on money and an emergency situation, which helps the scammers trap their targets.

Scammers use different methods to impersonate Fraud Control

The scam in question can take several forms. You may receive a call from someone pretending to be an agent of the DGCCRF, or “Fraud Repression”. There, the individual tells you that someone has, without your knowledge, used your bank card to make purchases. It then gives several card numbers, so that you can identify yours.

Then there is the case where you receive an SMS from the so-called “fraud department”, which tells you that a payment of a certain amount by bank card is in progress, and that you must contact a non-credit number as quickly as possible. surcharge. The pirates put the pressure on by leaving only 45 minutes to react, after which “ the payment will be validated “.

Another example also put forward by the DGCCRF: a person tells you that they are a Fraud Repression agent. She explains to you that your bank card has been used abroad, often in a border country, and that the only solution for you to block the purchase is to give her the code that you have just received by SMS, you know, this famous code which allows you to validate a purchase. The DGCCRF, the real one, whose RésponsConso service is the victim of this identity theft, warns of all these situations.

The DGGCRF never contacts a person without having been contacted in advance

Fraud Repression explains that it will never contact any consumer in this way. Obviously, she never asks for any code or bank card number. The scammers do it with one goal: to obtain your bank details and/or steal money from you. They make the person called check their bank account while they are chatting with them, to take action.

Vigilance must be important, since the scam manifests itself by using the real telephone number of the DGCCRF, in other words 0890 540 550. The Fraud Repression adds that it never takes the initiative of contacting anyone who has not requested it beforehand.

The scams are becoming more and more sophisticated, so the RésponsConso service periodically sees its identity stolen. », deplores the DGCCRF. In passing, she invites you to never respond to these requests, and to contact your banking establishment if you have the slightest doubt.
