free access to extended contraception

Contraception, examinations linked to its prescription, these possibilities are now extended to those under 15 years of age.

Minors under 15 will be able to access free contraception.
This possibility was open without parental consent and free of charge for their elders since 1974 in family planning centers.
Since August 27, the costs related to the use of contraceptives are therefore also covered 100% by the Health Insurance for those under 15 years of age. This measure was provided for in the 2020 Social Security budget.
This applies to the prescription of a contraceptive, or in case of medical biology examinations for such a prescription. The minor insured then benefits from a fee waiver on the portion covered by Health Insurance. This applies for pills, but also for devices like implants or intrauterine contraceptives. The measure also concerns biological examinations linked to the prescription of contraception.

Regarding the morning-after pill, it is available free of charge in pharmacies without prescription.
Health professionals are obviously bound by medical confidentiality. This does not exempt young girls from communicating their identity and age.

To be able to benefit from free contraception, you must go to a doctor, a midwife or a family planning center. The professional can then issue a prescription to obtain contraception at the pharmacy. After three months, a blood test should be taken and an appointment made with a gynecologist or a midwife to check that the treatment is well supported.

This measure was taken when nearly 1,000 pregnancies, 770 of which end in abortion, are recorded each year in young girls aged 12 to 14 years.
