What does the Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2022 do?

The Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2022 is divided into three parts: The “Overview” start page checks for possible optimization potential with a click. A click on “Analyze” is enough for the system suite to check the areas “Browser traces”, “Broken links”, “Unnecessary active services”, “System settings that can be optimized”, “Security settings that can be optimized” and “Empty recycle bin”. The scan takes a few seconds to a few minutes.

At the end you will see how many superfluous objects the program has found – including an indication of how much storage space you would free up by deleting the contents. A click on “Optimize” frees up the disk space on your HDD/SSD and changes the complained settings. If you would like to see exactly what you are tuning as part of the one-click optimization, select the individual tiles before pressing the “Optimize” button. The Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2022 then tells you what it wants to do. For example, you can automatically clean Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.

If desired, the scan can take place automatically after the program is called up: At the bottom of the overview page, toggle the toggle switch to activate it. Then the software will scan when you restart it. It also starts doing this when you switch to another module (see the article text after the following screenshot) and go back to the overview/start screen. The black information field at the top right is informative: In this area you can see your operating system, the amount of RAM installed and the name of your processor and your graphics processor.

Program package more and more slimmed down

The previous AWO version already had fewer functions than its predecessor. The slimming diet is repeated: The Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2022 is worse equipped than in 2021. Instead of 25, there are only 23 modules on board. The autostart manager and the registry defragmentation have been omitted. In summary, Ashampoo has the components “AntiSpy” and “Win10 Privacy Control” from AWO 2021, they operate under the name “Privacy Manager” in AWO 2022.

According to the manufacturer, a few things have been improved with the AWO 2022: The memory consumption of numerous modules is said to have decreased significantly. The “Empty Recycle Bin” tile is new on the start page. The cleaner modules have been updated, and the “Internet Cleaner” tool for cleaning up web browsers has a new “Manage safe cookies” button. You can use it to call up the settings similar to the “Options” button that the previous AWO version 2021 already had. Unlike the “Options” button, you do not have to click on the “Secure Cookies” tab, you are directly in this section. It is used to define URL-based information snippets to be retained during the cleanup.

Clicking first on “Options” and then on “Secure Cookies” is still possible with the AWO 2022, but no longer necessary. According to the manufacturer, the Disk Doctor module performs hard drive analyzes faster. Cosmetic fine-tuning can be seen in the form of tooltips: When you mouse over some buttons, Ashampoo WinOptimizer now shows a descriptive text for the first time.

Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2022: Compensate for missing modules

It usually costs money, but we offer it exclusively as a free full version in our download area. The AWO 18 works solidly on Windows 10 (and on older Microsoft systems). However, it is not fully compatible with Windows 11, and we advise against using it with the current system. If you have no problem with dedicated programs, two freeware alternatives for Windows 11 (they are also recommended under Windows 8.1/10) step into the breach: auto runs and Auslogics Registry Defrag. If you wish, you can use it to supplement AWO 2022 or to replace it.

As a rule, both values ​​range at a marginal level, as do the speed gains that can be achieved through maintenance in this area. But if the whole thing is important to you, you can use the procedure to polish the inner Windows values ​​and get a good feeling.

Install and activate Ashampoo software

If you are interested in Ashampoo WinOptimizer 2022, start the installation by double-clicking on the installer file. Confirm the Windows User Account Control warning message with “Yes”. In the setup wizard, select “Accept & Next > Next” and wait until the program files have been fully unzipped. Then close the wizard with the “Finish” button. The AWO 2022 starts automatically, but switches off the dialog “Almost done!” before: In this window there is a free registration.

If you already have an Ashampoo account, enter your access data. If you do not yet have an account with the provider, set your e-mail address and password in the program dialog and click on a confirmation link in an e-mail that Ashampoo then sends you. A short time later, the software is ready to go.
