Free instead of € 3.39: Android app shows a completely new way of making music

Today we have our NextPit coffee break again and this time we recommend a really wacky music app. Fang Synth is a synthesizer that has a very special twist. We introduce you to the app, which is only free today.

  • Fang Synth is only today free of charge instead of 3.39 euros
  • The app uses the motion sensor in the smartphone
  • No in-app purchases, no account required and no advertising

Let’s make a lot of noise today, dear NextPit community! I would like to introduce you to an app with which you can make EDM or techno music. Synthesizer apps are a dime a dozen, but this one has a real unique selling point. Therefore – and because it is currently free for Android – let’s tell you what it’s all about.

Why is it worth downloading Fang Synth?

Let’s start the other way around: It’s definitely not worth it for the opulent graphics. A quick look at the article picture above or the linked video below confirms this. But there are apps in which the appearance does not really play a role and such a synthesizer application is undoubtedly one of them.

The free download is worthwhile simply because you get a combination of synthesizer and sequencer. So you create sounds and can then arrange them in patterns right away (let me know later if your great EDM career started today).

But the highlight that makes this umpteenth synth app so extraordinary: Fang Synth is an app that is based on the motion control of a synthesizer, arpeggiator and sequencer using accelerometer information. Each parameter can be linked to different directions of movement. So let the sound play and then take the smartphone in your hand – the sound changes depending on the location. This can be explained in a complicated way, or just watch (and hear) it quickly in the video. This is not the manufacturer’s official video, but an avid user of the app:

Wacky, right? Fang Synth comes with presets, WAV recording, a step arpeggiator with diatonic / pentatonic scale lock, a multi-pattern sequencer, wave-shaping oscillators, resonance filters with envelope and pitch lock as well as an effects device (including formant filter, pitched delay, reverb, down -Sample, Bit-Reduction).

However, the number has a small catch: If you start the app for the first time, you will probably find yourself sitting in front of the display quite perplexed. You really have to dig into it a little first so that you can see how you generate the sounds or how you determine what should happen when the smartphone is moved. The little HowTo in the app is helpful, but above all this detailed guide.

Is it safe to download the Fang Synth app?

The app’s privacy policy consists of just two sentences:

No data is collected other than that collected by Google Play. This is subject to change and will be posted here before it goes into effect.

As always, I took a look at the privacy checker platform Exodus, which also gave me the green light for the app: There are exactly 0 trackers and 2 required authorizations (wake lock, write external storage). You do not need an account, there are no advertising and no in-app purchases.

I have no idea how this app will develop. There are currently just 1000+ downloads – so you could be among the first to discover this application for yourself. It is best to do it today, because tomorrow the fun costs 3.39 euros again!

Also free for 1 month: Waipu.tv
Almost 170 TV channels on up to 5 devices at the same time

Maybe in the future we will still work on the appearance of the surface, it certainly couldn’t hurt. But even if the eyes shouldn’t be too enthusiastic about the app: At least my ears are and I already apologize to my colleagues for the fact that I need longer for my articles today because I have to explore sound worlds in between.

What do you think? Is that too crazy for you, or should we also introduce music apps like this one more often? Let us know in the comments.
