His act of courage against propaganda in the Russian media went around the world in 24 hours. Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, arrested after her intrusion live on the set of the most watched news in Russia, was released Monday, receiving a fine equivalent to 250 euros for “administrative offense”. If France is ready to offer him “its protection”, Marina Ovsyannikova is not necessarily finished with Russian justice.
Her conviction does not indeed concern her appearance in the JT, but only the video she had posted on social networks before. “Unfortunately, I worked for Pervy Kanal for the past few years, doing propaganda for the Kremlin. I’m very ashamed of that today. I’m ashamed of allowing lies to be broadcast on TV, shame for allowing the Russian people to be ‘zombified'”, she explained in this video.
“I remain convinced that Russia is committing a crime”
Marina Ovsyannikova still risks, for this live irruption, criminal proceedings punishable by heavy prison sentences. If she is prosecuted for publishing “false information” about the Russian army, the journalist and producer risks up to 15 years in prison.
When she left court yesterday afternoon, Marina Ovsyannikova refused to comment on these possible additional lawsuits, explaining that she first wanted to rest. She explains that she was interrogated for 14 hours, without the possibility of speaking to her relatives or her lawyers. In court, the journalist reiterated her position, saying “I remain convinced that Russia is committing a crime […] and that she is the aggressor of Ukraine”.
