From the creator of Vikings, this even more violent series is available in its entirety for free

(Re)discover “The Tudors”, the first historical series from the creator of “Vikings”, fully available on 6play and at the top of the consultations on the platform.

Today, we mainly know the showrunner Michael Hirst for his series Vikings, which depicted the mythical epic of the famous warrior Ragnar Lothbrok, his wife Lagertha and his sons, recounting their bloodthirsty and numerous conquests across the medieval West.

But three years before boarding his longship to explore the Scandinavian fjords, the small screen historian was interested in another major period in European history. In 2010, on the Showtime channel, Michael Hirst signed his first series: The Tudors.

Devoted to the sulphurous life of King Henry VIII of England, known for his escapades, his scandals, his tumultuous relationships with women and his numerous marriages, this series of 4 seasons (i.e. 38 episodes of 52 minutes) is now available for free on 6playand seems to arouse real interest among subscribers since it is currently at the top of the most viewed content on the platform.

The Tudors therefore returns to the reign of Henry VIII, whose amorous conquests and multiple transgressions in the eyes of the Church will have a significant impact on the history of England and the destiny of Europe.

In addition to its story with multiple issues, the series is also remarkable for its sets and its sumptuous costumes, but also and above all for its four-star casting. In the role of Henry VIII, Vikings fans will recognize Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (famous for playing the formidable warrior-bishop Heahmund in season 5 of the series, but also for his roles in Match Point and Mission Impossible).

At her side, we will also find Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones) in the role of Anne Boleyn, Annabelle Wallis (seen in Peaky Blinders) in the role of Jane Seymour, Tamzin Merchant (who almost played Daenerys Targaryen before being replaced by Emilia Clarke), as well as Sam Neill in the role of Cardinal Wolsey, or even Henry Cavill at the very beginning of his career.

Exciting but also ruthless and brutal, Michael Hirst’s first series is perhaps not for everyone. Indeed, The Tudors does not spare its spectators regarding scenes of violence, particularly during particularly harsh public executions, or sex scenes, even cruder than in Vikings or Game of Thrones. We therefore recommend that parents keep younger children away before exploring this chapter of history.
