From the mountains to the sea – new cycling offer from Lienz to the Adriatic Sea

Guided e-bike tours from mountainous East Tyrol to the Adriatic Sea: what Franz Theurl, chairman of the East Tyrol Tourism Association (TVBO) had long dreamed of, will be implemented this year. The Interreg project “Parkade” makes it possible together with the cooperation with the partners from Moggio Udinese and Paularo. The first packages should be available to book from May.

“Ten years ago, I already had the vision of using Lienz as a hub for a unique range of bikes between the Grossglockner, the Dolomites and the sea,” says Theurl happily at the presentation of the project. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea is a decoy for cyclists from all over the world. “The potential is great. Nobody else can offer a bike week like this,” explains the tourism expert. Three e-bike adventure tours are already in the program Each lasts a week and starts in Lienz. Endpoints of the trip lasting several days are Grado, Trieste or Venice. However, all tours can be put together individually and are accompanied by an app. If you want to make culinary or cultural detours, you can do so with just a few entries on your smartphone. The tours are organized by providers who take the bikers back to Lienz by bus. Packages can be booked from May There should be specific packages available to book from May. According to Theurl, the demand is already high: “We expect to generate many overnight stays.” He therefore wants to promote the topic of bike guides, who, like mountain guides, accompany organized tours. The budget for this sustainable project was around 970,000 euros, around 187,000 came from TVBO, with 85 percent being funded by the EU.
