“Frozen 2” is broadcast this evening on M6. The opportunity to take stock of the sequel planned for our theaters in 2026.
11 years ago, the world discovered the Kingdom of Arendelle and the song “Let It Go” resonated in everyone’s heads. Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, Frozen was a real success and grossed $1.28 billion worldwide.
Six years later, the Nordic sisters Anna and Elsa were back with Frozen 2. Released in November 2019, the film did even better than the previous installment and totaled $1.45 billion at the international box office. , becoming the highest-grossing animated film worldwide.
It is therefore logical that the Disney animation studios formalized in February 2023, a third Frozen film. But 9 months later, and to everyone’s surprise, Bob Iger, the studio’s CEO, declared that a fourth film could see the light of day.
What do we know about Frozen 3?
Little is still known about Frozen 3. However, Jennifer Lee, screenwriter and director of the first two films will not return to directing or writing. Questioned by the American site The Wrap en last June, the filmmaker revealed that she would not direct Frozen 3.
Since June 2019, Jennifer Lee has been creative director at Walt Disney Animation Studios. She succeeded John Lasseter, who was forced to step down due to the accusations against him.
The filmmaker and screenwriter will have an advisory role on the third part of the saga that launched her. She states: “I can’t say where we are with Frozen 3. All of our stories are directed by the studio artists. The direction we’re taking with this film doesn’t come from me. It came from an incredible person. He’s a new arrival, I haven’t told anyone about him. I was blown away and I’m having a blast with this team“.

She adds : “It’s funny with Frozen, because a lot of the artists at the studio grew up with it and were there throughout the process… Now they’re making it their own and I think that’s good.” The production of Frozen 3 should therefore be entrusted to a young filmmaker.
Which actors are in the voice cast of Frozen 3?
For their part, dubbing actresses Idina Menzel, who lends her voice to Elsa in the original version, and Kristen Bell who voices Anna, will reprise their roles. The actress and singer Idina Menzel revealed on the site’s microphone Billboard that Disney had announced to the actors that a third part was going to see the light of day.
Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff are also expected to reprise their respective roles as Olaf and Kristoff from the original version.
What will Frozen 3 be about?

It is still unclear what the feature film will be about, but the third installment will most likely take place directly after the events of the second film.
As a reminder, in the second opus, Anna and Elsa go to the enchanted forest which is located outside of Arendelle to discover why a mysterious voice is calling Elsa and to prevent the enchanted spirits from destroying Arendelle.

The sisters discover that in the past, there was a battle between the soldiers of Arendelle and the forest-dwelling people of Northuldra, which resulted in the forest being cut off from the rest of the world. Anna and Elsa then discover that their parents were on their way to Ahtohallan to discover the source of Elsa’s power when they were shipwrecked. The Norse sisters find their parents’ ship in the Enchanted Forest and learn that their mother was Northuldran.
In Ahtohallan, Elsa and Anna learn that their grandfather was responsible for the conflict between the two peoples and had created a dam in the forest intended to weaken the Northuldran people. To right the mistakes of the past, Anna understands that she must break the dam to free the forest.
At the very end of Frozen 2Anna becomes Queen of the Kingdom of Arendelle and is preparing to marry Kristoff while Elsa remained in the enchanted forest to protect Nature.

In Frozen 3 we should therefore witness the wedding of Anna and her sweetheart and the way in which the two sisters reign over their respective kingdoms. The film should also allow us to better discover the world of Northuldra and its inhabitants and why not offer Elsa her love story…
When will Frozen 3 be released?
During Disney’s annual financial report, Bob Iger announced the release dates of several films and specified that Frozen 3will be released in 2026, just like Toy Story 5.
In the latest release calendar sent to the press, the French branch of the studio announces a Untitled Disney Animation to November 25, 2026. The previous parts having been released at the same period, it is very likely that this date will be reserved for Frozen 3The film should therefore be the Disney of Christmas 2026.
For the record, Vaiana 2, scheduled for release in theaters on November 27, will be the 2024 Christmas holiday film, and Zootopia 2, announced on November 26, 2025, will be the 2025 Christmas film.
