The parents of the deposed boss of FTX, Samuel Bankman-Fried (SBF), are also being prosecuted in connection with embezzlement linked to the cryptocurrency platform.

The FTX soap opera could well see its last act at the beginning of October, when its former boss SBF will face no fewer than eight charges, representing a cumulative total of around a hundred years of imprisonment. Until then, he was the only person to have to go to court, his former collaborators having all pleaded guilty. But now his two parents are in turn implicated by American justice!

Mr. Bankman and Mrs. Fried

This is news that we didn’t see coming. Because the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency platform, which left many customers bankrupt and was allegedly caused, according to American justice, by embezzlement by its management, was also the fault of other culprits.

This is in any case the opinion of the prosecution which, two weeks before putting SBF before a jury, decided to prosecute his two parents, Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried. An action justified by the fact that FTX would have in fact been a “ family business “.

We learn in the file that the two parents would have accepted a gift of $10 million in cash from FTX, as well as a property in Bermuda worth $16.7 million.

The couple also allegedly pushed the company to make numerous donations to charitable organizations, including Stanford. A university where Joseph Bankman serves as a professor of law specializing in taxation.

On the defense side, we see this pursuit as a maneuver by the public prosecutor. “ This is a dangerous attempt to intimidate Joe and Barbara and undermine jury proceedings days before their child’s trial begins », Explain the lawyers of Mr. Bankman and Ms. Fried.
