LFilling a jerrycan is prohibited. The decision comes from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, which is broadcasting this ban, so far limited to certain departments of Hauts-de-France and Île-de-France, according to BFMTV. The decree will be taken when a third of the petrol stations in France have had to lower the curtain, the refineries being blocked by the employees.

The decree is taken a few hours before an emergency meeting. Four ministers are summoned by Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne at 9 p.m.: the ministers of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, of Energy Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher, of Transport, Clément Beaune, as well as the government spokesperson Olivier Véran.

No concrete proposal

Emmanuel Macron on Monday called on the management of oil groups and unions for “responsibility”, stressing that “the blocking” of fuel depots was “not a way of negotiating”. “I hope that a solution can be found, a rapid conclusion of the negotiations” and “I call on all the companies concerned and the employees to show a spirit of responsibility”, declared the Head of State during a trip to Château-Gontier (Mayenne). Negotiations on the side of Esso and TotalEnergies began on Monday, but the unions have decided to renew the strike movement.

“The movement continues despite the statement from the management. For the moment, she is content to bring forward the meeting on the NAOs [négociations annuelles obligatoires de 2023, NDLR], but there is no concrete proposal. We are being offered to accept a blank check, it is not acceptable,” Alexis Antonioli, general secretary of the CGT union on the Total Normandy platform, told reporters after the strike was renewed.
