Compact and versatile

Unsurprisingly, the new Samyang lens relies heavily on its size and a reduced weight of 257 g for a length of 69.3 mm and a diameter of 72 mm. For comparison, Fujifilm has a Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS W Macro almost three times heavier and twice as large. With such measurements, the Samyang AF 75mm F1.8 X will eye photographers who move a lot or videographers who need to mount their equipment on a stabilizer.

In addition to the template, Samyang adds some features dedicated to video use, such as aperture control. Specifically, the lens has a switch on the barrel to manage the diaphragm via the focusing ring.

A serious construction

Samyang has made a name for itself on the market thanks in particular to contained prices, which are often explained by the absence of autofocus. Such is not the case with this AF 75mm F1.8 X which has a stepping autofocus motor.

The lens barrel is fitted with 5 O-rings to protect the camera against water and humidity intrusions, essential for photographers who use their camera in all weathers. On the optical side, the Samyang fixed focal length is based on a formula with 10 lenses divided into 9 groups comprising 2 HR (High Refraction) glasses and 3 ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glasses, completed by a 9-blade diaphragm.

Price and availability

As usual, Samyang offers its lenses at an affordable price. This Samyang AF 75mm F1.8 X is expected in mid-March 2023 at an indicative price of €479. In addition, the brand is setting up a pre-order offer with a bonus USB docking station.
