Gabriel Attal, the rest of the reshuffle delayed: why it’s still stuck

The second wave of the reshuffle is long overdue. On January 9, a few hours after the resignation of Élisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal was appointed Prime Minister. A choice which materialized the meteoric rise of the municipal councilor of Vanves, who had entered the Government as Secretary of State to the Minister of National Education and Youth in 2018, before becoming spokesperson, delegate minister responsible for public accounts and more recently Minister of National Education and Youth. By succeeding Élisabeth Borne, the 34-year-old politician inherited a particularly complex mission: that of dealing with Emmanuel Macron the next government. Shortly after his appointment, Gabriel Attal had formalized no less than 14 names to form his team. However, the composition of the second half of the Government is still awaited.

While the second wave of the reshuffle was announced around January 20, it was ultimately postponed several times. As revealed Europe 1this Wednesday February 7, this delay is notably due to the reflection of Emmanuel Macron, who would like to find “a political balance” by appointing delegate ministers and state secretaries from the different components of the majority (the MoDem or Horizons). But that’s not all ! The case François Bayrou also changed the situation. The politician, who was notably expected to replace Amélie Oudéa-Castéra at the Ministry of National Education, was cleared two days ago by the courts. As a reminder, François Bayrou was suspected of being involved in the use of European funds to pay parliamentary assistants who in reality worked for centrist organizations in France, between 2005 and 2017. His relaxation changes everything !” an advisor from the Élysée told Europe 1.
