Galaxy Watch 5: the Pro version with a better battery is becoming clearer

Dutch site GalaxyClub has gotten its hands on the code names for Samsung’s upcoming watches. Three models would be planned: a small, a large and a premium.

Like every year, Samsung should take advantage of this summer to officially present its new range of connected watches, at the same time as its next folding smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4. These new watches, which should be known as the Galaxy Watch 5 range name, should welcome a new model. Indeed, unlike previous years, we would not be entitled to just two new watches – each available in two formats –, but indeed to three different versions.

The Dutch site GalaxyClub, specializing in news from the Korean manufacturer, has learned the code names of the next Samsung watches. Three models are thus in development: Heart-S, Heart-L and Heart-Pro.

While the Heart-S and Heart-L versions should match the size of the smartwatch — with a small 40 or 42 mm and a large 44 or 46 mm — the Heart-Pro version of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 should to correspond to an even more premium version. The Heart-Pro model would otherwise be known as model number SM-R92X. However, only one size version should be offered. GalaxyClub specifies that these three models should be offered in Europe, but not necessarily under the code names used internally by Samsung. There is therefore no indication that the Heart-Pro is known as the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and the firm could use a different name once the product is announced.

No Galaxy Watch 5 Classic, but a more standalone version

This new leak in any case corroborates previous information about future Samsung watches. At the end of April, the Sam Mobile site already indicated that Samsung would end its Active and Classic versions for the future Galaxy Watch 5, contenting itself with simple differences in size. The basic Galaxy Watch 5 should therefore only be available in two versions, depending on the size. A month ago, the same site, which specializes in Samsung news, got hold of more information about a higher-end version of the watch, then known as the “Galaxy Watch 5 Pro“. Sam Mobile then indicated that the watch would benefit from a large 572 mAh battery. A significant asset, since the 40 mm version of the Galaxy Watch 5 would only integrate a 276 mAh battery – against 247 mAh for the Galaxy Watch 4.

For the time being, we still do not know what the main new features will be brought by this new generation of connected watches. Some rumors point to the arrival of a body temperature measurement, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that Samsung would not have managed to develop an algorithm sufficiently reliable to interpret skin temperature. We will have to wait a few more months to find out more. As a reminder, the Galaxy Watch 4 were presented last year during the month of August. We can therefore expect a presentation at the same time for the Galaxy Watch 5 this year.
