Some video games are so rich in content that they still hold many mysteries to discover years after their release. Red Dead Redemption 2 developed and published by Rockstar Games is clearly of this caliber. This video game western made a sensational debut in 2018 on eighth generation consoles and the Google Stadia streaming service since closed. Six years later, a gamer discovered an ultra rare audio file.

The “audio” secrets of Red Dead Redemption 2

Dataminers are known for dissecting every file, every line of code (or almost) of their favorite video games in order to unearth rare information, the little gem that will set the community of fans gathered around said work in turmoil. Rockstar Games has no equal when it comes to creating titles with unsuspected depth and richness. Several years after the release of Red Dead Redemption II, one of these famous dataminers came across an unknown audio file.

The YouTube channel “Red Dead Redemption Stories”, which as its name suggests specializes in the eponymous video game, is appreciated by fans for its ability to discover and share its findings. In the video below, the videographer deciphers said audio files which in summary tells us more about the process used by the studios to capture the voices of actors and actresses. According to him, he dug up four files all related to the mission called “A Quiet Time” and all slightly different from each other.

The file used in the final version is among those found in the game folders. In the scene in question, Arthur Morgan talks with Dutch at their base camp as Lenny prepares to tell them about Micah’s arrest. One of the audios even contains a line error made by Dutch comedian Benjamin Byron Davis. Other tracks include sound effects, starting with galloping horses, footsteps, etc.

GTA 6 still in development

In parallel with the continuous update of GTA Online, the next installment of Rockstar Games’ flagship video game saga is on track. After years of rumors and other speculations, the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was revealed in December 2024 and with it a release window and the machines involved. GTA VI will be released in 2025 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The title returns to Vice City, a fictional city inspired by Miami, and focuses its plot around a couple of gangsters including Lucia, the first real female protagonist of the series.
