Messages from unknown senders reach our smartphone almost every day. They are particularly disturbing because they are usually scams that cybercriminals use to get valuable data. The reasons for contacting us can vary. Be it a crypto scam on WhatsApp or the well-known packet scam.
A special target group is currently affected by a fraudulent SMS: Targobank’s customers. The message is short and inconspicuous, but dangerous. In it, the senders claim that registration with the Targobank app will soon expire. You will be asked to register again via a link.
If you follow the instructions and click on the link, the trap will snap shut. This does not lead to an official Targobank website. If you provide your login details for online banking on the site, the information will be forwarded directly to the fraudsters. The criminals are also interested in all other information about you.

The cybercriminals use the stolen data to gain access to your account. This way they can steal your money unnoticed. They could also sell your personal data on the dark web, which would lead to you becoming a victim of further phishing attacks.
You can easily see that this is an attempted scam. Your bank would never notify you of a registration process via SMS. The impersonal salutation is also a clear indication. Under no circumstances should you click on the link. Simply leave the message unanswered and report it to your system as spam.
