Different fighting games, 3D or not, have been fighting for over 40 years now. In 2023, Street Fighter 6 was able to make everyone agree. But at the start of 2024, the new episode of the Tekken series poses a challenger for a return particularly appreciated by the community…

Each episode of Tekken is an event for fighting fans. This eighth installment is no exception to the rule and manages to rank among the best in the series. Enough to become the number one video game of the genre?

Tekken or nothing?

One of the big dilemmas of fighting game players is knowing which title to invest their time in. Indeed, between Mortal Kombat 1, Tekken 8, Street Fighter 6, for the best known, there were others in 2023, but less popular, it is not obvious which one you are going to spend your hours on. If you know the discipline and you’re looking to improve, or better yet, become a competitive player, you know that you’re going to have to practice and that doesn’t happen in the blink of an eye. So, before you start, you need to know what defines the game that seems, a priori, to interest you.

Tekken is primarily known for being a 3D fighting game and often the technical showcase of its category. This is the case with Tekken 8! Then, the series proved itself with a simple system: each button corresponds to one of the members of your character. In the heat of the action, we therefore find a certain logic in the choreographies and other sequences. You will have understood, Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 work differently and we refer you to their respective tests to better understand the differences. Now let’s look at what Tekken 8 offers.

Tekken 8, an ultra complete video game!

With 32 characters, including some new ones, we obviously think Azucena, Reina or even Victor (played by Vincent Cassel), you will have plenty to keep you busy. Yes, the days of duplicate characters from the first Tekken are over. Added to this are solo modes galore with a stylish overall story about form, mini scenarios for each of the 32 heroes, a discovery mode of the world of Tekken through arcade rooms and the classic modes, Versus and Arcade. But thanks to AI ghostsalready present before in the series, but now more effective, you will be able to face characters whose playstyles are modeled on those of real players. All this is explained in the test video that you find at the top of this article.

As if that wasn’t enough, you will also be able to fight online against players from all over the worldenjoy a dedicated lobby in the form of an arcade room, the famous Tekken Ball (everyone says it’s great, but between us, everyone knows we don’t play it for very long ;)) and, finally of a really well done training mode. In addition to the possibility of training with AI fatômes, you will discover ‘a large quantity of tutorials to understand the Tekken 8 game system, more extensive thanks to the Heat bar, and a large number of challenges to perfect your sequences. But that’s not all, we’ll also learn to counter and punish your opponent thanks to special challenges. In short, Tekken 8 masters its subject and manages to climb into the best games of the genre while meeting all expectations and by opening up even more to all players, without losing depth. Very good “fists”, then!
