“Hey out there! This is Tokyo’s very own number one, pirate powerstation, Jet Set Radio!”. GG’s soon on consoles, PC and Switch 2?

That’s great

If you grew up in the 80s/90s, you certainly remember the omnipresence of SEGA in the video game landscape. The former manufacturer, now a third-party publisher, had promised during the 2023 Games Awards to bring back its biggest licenses that had been put aside for too long. In a single video, the Shinagawa firm announced the return of five unforgettable franchises: Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Ax and Streets of Rage! Not all projects are at the same level of progress in their production, but this proves that the Japanese giant is listening to fans who have been asking for new episodes for a long, long time, particularly for Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi. The CEO of SEGA of America said in an interview that this strategy aims to show “the audacity and rebellious spirit of the brand”.

The X/Twitter user who calls himself Midori, who has already leaked SEGA-related information that turned out to be true, has indulged in some confidences. According to him, the new Jet Set Radio should arrive in 2026. Midori adds that the SEGA title is planned to arrive on Nintendo’s Switch 2, which could be officially announced next month according to some rumors. Still according to Midori, the next Jet Set Radio will be more of a reboot than a remake. In remarks echoed by GamingBolthe states that “Jet Set Radio will tell a completely new story, and feature characters both new and old”. For the moment, few details have been officially given by SEGA about Jet Set Radio. We just know that the title will be open world. The leaker also says that Crazy Taxi should be released in 2027, would have online elements, and would be developed under Unreal Engine.

Hey out there! This is Tokyo’s very own number one, pirate powerstation, Jet Set Radio!“. These few words uttered by DJ Professor K during the first moments of Jet Set Radio are anchored in the brains of fans like graffiti on an old subway train. Visual gem when it was released in the early 2000s, musically stunning , cheeky in what it tells, fun, also varied in its environments and its adversaries, the SEGA software is a game that has made its contribution to the construction of video games. We’re crossing our fingers that this next episode will turn our heads like it was back then.
