After the episode The Day Before, players are on guard. So obviously when a game like Palworld (“Pokémon with guns”) has everything to be a joke, players are wary. But the developers persist and sign: their game is not a scam!

Palworld, too good to be true?

Sometimes there are games that we absolutely didn’t see coming. And this is particularly the case with Palworld. At the time of its announcement in 2021, the Pocketpair title was able to surprise players with its concept that was both familiar and original: the famous “Pokémon with guns”. Behind this name hides an open world survival game in which you can fight and create your base, all with the help of your companions, namely cute little creatures called Pals. To do this, you will have to capture them a bit like a Pokémon. Some of the games are as similar as two drops of water to those of the Nintendo license, hence the comparison is far from exaggerated despite the very different genres of games.

On paper, the project is quite crazy and tempting. But we already had a somewhat similar case recently with a game that came out of nowhere seeming particularly ambitious and with tempting promises: The Day Before. If you haven’t been in a cave in the last few months, you know this story didn’t end well. The Day Before will be remembered as the worst launch of 2023 and resonates in the minds of many as a complete scam. Need a recap of the entire journey of The Day Before? And some have expressed this distrust of Palworld which, it must be said, can seem like a big joke on paper. But the developers deny it!

Pokémon with guns is not a scam

On the game’s Steam page, we can indeed find an FAQ concerning the game’s early access, which begins today. There we find information on upcoming features (crossplay, cross save, mod, etc.) but also a rather strange detail which shows that The Day Before has left its mark. At the question “is this game a scam?”the developers at Pocketpair responded: “This is not a scam and the game will actually be released on January 19th. Palworld is a classic game on Steam: you buy it once and you own it forever. Whether we can consider releasing expansions after the final release of the game is a discussion we will all have together, as a community, when the time comes.” Rather reassuring, no? And for the moment, reality proves them right since the game is available and has not yet been talked about negatively.

If you still have doubts, know that we have played the game and that for the moment it offers a solid experience with important content. For the start of early access, the Pocketpair developers are offering us something more than honest, far from the scam feared by some. At IGN, we currently give it a non-definitive score of 8 out of 10, that’s saying something. And if you want to make sure for yourself, sNote that the game is available from today at no additional cost for Xbox Game Pass subscribers (console and PC). Otherwise, you will have to pay €28.99 on Steam to be able to see this with your own eyes.
