Emilia Clarke is a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Prince William presented the actress with the medal on Wednesday.
Hollywood royalty visits Windsor Castle: “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke (37) was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) this Wednesday by the British heir to the throne, Prince William (41). Clarke’s mother Jennifer Clarke was also inducted into the prestigious order by William. Princess Kate’s husband (42) represented his father, King Charles III, who was suffering from cancer, at the ceremony. (75).
Emilia Clarke honored for her charity
Clarke, who played fan favorite Daenerys Targaryen in the epic fantasy series Game of Thrones, was recognized for her contributions to founding the charity SameYou. The organization’s goal is to support and accompany people with brain injuries in their recovery. Clarke founded SameYou with her mother Jennifer.
“Game of Thrones” star suffered two brain hemorrhages
The 37-year-old can look back on a shocking medical history herself. Clarke first suffered a brain hemorrhage in 2011, after filming the first season of Game of Thrones. A second one, which required surgery, followed in 2013.
“You spend a month in the hospital, every day they tell you you’re going to die. And then you go home and have to live with it,” Clarke revealed to the Daily Mail regarding their own experiences with their illness. After her stay in the hospital, she was therefore unable to “be a normal person again”. For this reason, the charity she founded focuses on helping people recover after their time in hospital.
Prince William ensures the feel-good factor
The actress said she felt extremely comfortable at the ceremony at Windsor Castle. “I think I underestimated how magical it is to be here,” she revealed. Prince William was “simply delightful” and made everyone present feel comfortable. The heir to the British throne was also well-informed about the work of Clarke’s charity organization.
