From 2009 to 2019, the gamescom had continued to grow in terms of size and number of people in the aisles, thus attracting 373,000 visitors and 31,300 professionals for 1,153 exhibitors 3 years ago. As you well know, the following 2 editions were canceled due to COVID-19, but the event returned between August 24 and 28, 2022 with great fanfare, but with ambitions adapted to this break.
It is thus “only” 265,000 visitors and 25,000 professionals who met around 1,100 exhibitors last week, a drop in attendance due to a lower number of tickets on sale to limit crowds. Digital events also appealed, with more than 12 million viewers for the gamescom Opening Night Liveand 355,000 quests EPIX completed online.
Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse: “For this restart, the many partners and the entire gamescom team fought so that gamescom 2022 could finally take place again in the exhibition halls of Cologne. It has not been an easy journey for the trade fair industry in general and the Koelnmesse in particular. Still, with all the exhibitors and us together, we were able to get hundreds of thousands of people on site and millions of people around the world excited for gamescom. I am particularly pleased that so many foreign visitors and exhibitors came to Cologne to celebrate their passion for games together – gamescom was more international than ever this year. All in all, it is a clear signal from Cologne to the whole world that the trade fair location in Germany is back. »

Faced with such a success, the organizers have already confirmed the holding ofa gamescom 2023 between August 23 and 27 in Colognewith a gamescom Opening Night Live opening on Tuesday August 22.
