Thursday, January 27, 2022, the funeral of Gaspard Ulliel took place at the Saint Eustache church in Paris. In mourning, director Rithy Panh, who had worked with the late actor, revealed a touching anecdote.
His disappearance has upset the world of cinema… Victim of a terrible skiing accident, Gaspard Ulliel lost his life on Wednesday January 19, 2022 at the age of 37. A few hours after learning the sad news, French-Cambodian director Rithy Panh wrote on Twitter: “Immense sadness… He was a marvelous actor and such a generous person with delicacy of care for others. Gaspard, we miss you already…” In 2008, it is for the needs of the film A dam against the Pacific, adapted from a novel by Marguerite Duras, which the two men had collaborated on. Very touched, It was on the day of the actor’s funeral that Rothy Panh shared a snapshot of a statue of a monkey… Offered by Gaspard Ulliel!
With emotion, the director revealed: “15 years ago… We were together on Madame Donnadieu’s land, in Ream. I was stressed, slept badly and elsewhere. Gaspard came to give me this little monkey, his talisman… The little monkey is still there, under the computer screen. Gaspard is also always on my mind.” A few days earlier, another famous director had paid tribute to Gaspard Ulliel. On Twitter, it was after sharing a snapshot of the actor in black and white that Xavier Dolan had written: “It’s incredible, insane, and so painful to even think of writing those words. Your discreet laughter, your watchful eye. Your scar. Your talent. Your listening. Your whispers, your kindness. All the features of your person were in fact born of a sparkling sweetness. It is your whole being that has transformed my life, a being that I loved deeply, and that I will always love. I can’t say anything else, I’m exhausted, stunned by your departure.“
Gaspard Ulliel, could he have been saved?
During his accident, the famous actor was not wearing a helmet. Could wearing one have saved him? Asked by RTL about this, Doctor Arnaud Bouvet, who had arrived quickly at the scene of the tragedy, assured: “It all depends on the severity of the impact. Wearing a helmet might not have avoided the dramatic outcome, but the reverse is just as true.“
